After Emergence, came the plants.
Each plant is made from watercolor paper cut to shapes that when put together bend into the final floral shapes. While I had worked with paper to sculpture before, a new element to this series was the uncanny nature of seeing something usually colorful by nature, completely drained of any color. It's an interesting, synthetic look to add to a very industrial world.
The first was the leafy plant seen to the right. A friend of mine was a huge fan of houseplants, and, having just discovered paper sculpture as a medium, I thought I'd make her very own paper houseplant.
Next was the flower below. Also a gift for a friend, I wanted to go for more of a bouquet look.
Third was the lily of the valley. I wanted to continue the flower trend but wanted to try a species with a completely separate look from the flower I had made before.
